The Clever Brains
Camp Rock 2

Reported by Gladys Seow

Secondary 2 students from Holy Innocents’ High School just hosted their own “Camp Rock”!

It was no ordinary camp for the students.

With the help of the student leaders, peer support leaders and teachers, activities were being put up and tasks were set for our Secondary 2 “warriors”.

“I am very excited about the camp! I can’t wait to participate in the challenges!!” Jolynn Tan, a sophomore exclaimed.

The camp was held at Jalan Bahtera Adventure Centre from 8 February to 10 February 2010.

‘Dare to dream, dare to reach.’ Is this year’s main objective of the camp.

The school wants to motivate students in daring to dream about their future, reach out to their ambition.

Campers had to wake up early and report punctually to the assembly area but with the limited amount of time and toilets available, many struggled to comply with the needs.

Canteen duty was to be done where students had to serve other students when they queued up for food.

After every meal, area cleaning had to be done. Fairly, every class too had a taste of cleaning up the mess left behind by our students.

There were activities like flying fox, abseiling, crossing over chocolate river .etc

There were several tasks that required teamwork between each other and our young challengers have to trust each other in order to complete the task.

There were different values that our young “warriors” should acquire before leaving each station game.

Campers had to sleep on the hard cold floor every night to train their endurance.

Being far away from home, some student were home sick while others managed to pull through this tedious 2 night camp.

Apart from all the activities, something everyone look forward for is CampFire Night!

Campfire night was the best night the campers experienced in this 3 day 2 night camp.

Before the camp, every class was given a theme ‘Movies’ for Campfire night.

Each class had to come up with something related to ‘Movies’.

There were dances and skit performances by our students and it was definitely an enjoyable night for out campers.

Jazz Lim, a student commented that she had a whale of a time in this camp but it would not be made possible without the efforts of teachers, peer support leaders, student leaders and themselves. It wouldn’t have been successful without the participation and enthusiasm they had.

The school would be organizing more camps to allow the students to socialize more and discover their true inner self.

It was both a hectic and wonderful camp for the students at Holy Innocents’ High School.

Aesthetics Month on HIHS, A-MA-ZING

The month of April, is a very special month for the students at Holy Innocents’ High.

The Aesthetics Month falls on April this year.

The students’ long wait were over.

There would be a café on 16 April 2010.

Not only does it offer a performance by our students, it also a fun concert for people of all ages.

The Café  at HI stands for ‘creative arts for everyone’.

The tickets were sold at $10 each and were sold out fast.

“We were really looking forward to these moments. When the moment came, everything was just going so fast. There was so much hurrying and work to be done. It all paid out after all. But through all this, all we want to say is that Art is for everyone, not just the privileged ones.” The person in charge of the concert commented.

The concert was spectacular. For each performance, there were a number of standing ovations. Including my friends and I . It was just too good to stay sitting down.

I’m very sure everybody had their fun, be it outsiders, performers, students or staff members. This seems to be the reward for all the hard work put in just for the show.

To have this soothing and healing effect on the nerves and mind, everyone would probably look forward for another session of this or something else better in the future.

10 dollars to grab a seat in the café

Reported By Jolynn Tan

A seat in café in Holy Innocents High School is worth 10 dollars, but this café is not an ordinary one.

The café only started this year, during the aesthetics month. It does not serve beverages but there is a wonderful performance there.

Café stands for ‘Creative Arts For Everyone’, and all performing art members will gather to showcase their talent, be it singing, dancing, playing of instrument, or acting.

It is organized by school’s the aesthetics department, and all proceeds would go the school’s pocket money fund.

“I would surely support the school and buy the ticket for the café,” said Elicia Lim, a sophomore.

It would be held on 16 April, 2010 in the school hall.

The school is now surrounded by the art atmosphere, and there would also be an art exhibition, entrée, coming soon.

It would display works done by students as well as the teachers.

“Once the art exhibition is ready, I will go and take a look at it,” said Patricia Yeo, a counsellor.

Next, there would also be a batik workshop and there would be professional batik artist teaching students.

“I am really looking forward to the café as we have put in a lot of efforts in it in giving a good show.” Gladys Seow, a choir member commented.

The day of recognisation towards the “twin towers” is finally here.
